Friends of TEGH

It may be a surprise to you that TEGH is our local hospital.  Most of us usually think of the downtown university hospitals when it comes to both healthcare and charitable giving.   But TEGH is a community hospital that serves over 1 million Torontonians, including residents of East York, the Beach, Riverdale, Cabbagetown, parts of Leaside and a significant swatch of Scarborough.  Within the catchment area live some of the most vulnerable communities in the entire city – including one of the largest concentrations of new / recent immigrant families with limited means to support themselves, let alone their local hospital.

TEGH is at a critical juncture in its 80 year history, with an aging physical plant that’s in urgent need of redevelopment.  The hospital must raise $60 million from the public to complement the government funds necessary to construct a new facility. The new structure will ensure that the hospital can continue to provide the award winning healthcare for which it has been internationally recognized.

And that’s where you can help.  We’re putting together a local team of civic and philanthropic minded individuals who can work together to help raise awareness and funds for the hospital.  To focus our efforts, Friends of TEGH has set a modest goal of raising $250K to help fund a brand new Children’s Emergency Unit.

If this sounds interesting to you, then you are invited to attend an information session on May 19th, 6:30 pm at the hospital.   At this meeting, you can find out more about the hospital and learn about the innovative tools that that have designed to help individuals like you be successful.
